Vintage Report
A vintage of rare balance — pure fruit, vibrant energy, and the structure to age with distinction.
We like to think of 2023 as ‘The Vintage of Surprises.’ A cool spring brought the latest budbreak we’ve ever seen at WeatherEye, only to be followed by a warm May that pushed us into the earliest bloom on record — a dramatic start that set the tone for a season unlike any other in our vineyard’s history. A late-season cool-down proved to be the decisive turning point — arriving just as fruit reached peak maturity to lock in exceptional natural acidity, lower pH levels, and the pure, vibrant fruit character that defines great Rhône wines.
The result is a trio of reds that is already drawing critical praise. Our Syrah — deep, inky, and layered with dark plum, cracked pepper, and violet — carries outstanding structure and aging potential, with the International Wine Report noting it has “stuffing to evolve gracefully” through 2040 and beyond. Grenache is brilliant and lifted, showcasing fresh raspberry and pomegranate with a silky generosity that delivers immediate pleasure while remaining cellar-worthy through 2036. Mourvèdre, shaped by our fractured basalt soils, offers a refined, iron-tinged earthiness with firm, integrating tannins that will reward patience through 2038. Across all three, the hallmarks of 2023 are unmistakable: bright, pure fruit, vibrant energy, and the structural integrity to age with distinction.
